Preventing Flooding and Collapse in Trauma Sessions

A Free 1-hour Training for Trauma Practitioners

with Linda R. McFadden M.Ed., RP.

Learn how to recognize early overload signals, distinguish processing from overload, and respond more precisely before sessions escalate, collapse, or disconnect.

Does This Sound Familiar?

Have you ever:

  • Watched a client suddenly go flat, foggy, or emotionally distant?

  • Felt unsure whether to continue processing or slow things down?

  • Mistaken emotional intensity for therapeutic progress?

  • Had a session feel 'fine'— only to see destabilization afterward?

  • Noticed yourself overexplaining, overhelping, or rushing to regulate the room?

When that moment is missed, sessions can unintentionally move toward overload, shutdown and collapse.

In This Free Training, You'll Learn:

✔ Why more processing is not always better
✔ Subtle signs that flooding may already be beginning
✔ Common practitioner misreads that increase overload
✔ The difference between processing, overload, shutdown, and compliance
✔ Why clients can appear regulated but are moving toward collapse
✔ Foundational principles for pacing and state-based awareness

Who is this For?

  • Trauma Therapists

  • Psychotherapists

  • EMDR Clinicians

  • Somatic Practioners

  • Social Workers

  • Professionals Working with Dysregulation

Whether you are newer to trauma work or highly experienced, this training offers a practical lens for recognizing what is happening in real time inside the therapeutic process.

About Your Instructor

Linda R. McFadden is a Registered Psychotherapist with a Master’s Degree in Applied Psychology. She brings over 35 years of experience as a generalist practitioner, working across a wide range of client presentations, including trauma, emotional overwhelm, and nervous system dysregulation.

Through years of clinical observation and direct client work, she began identifying recurring moments where clients were not simply processing, but moving beyond their capacity for integration.

Her work focuses on helping practitioners recognize overload earlier, respond with greater precision, and reduce the likelihood of flooding, collapse, and destabilization during trauma work.

Linda integrates trauma-informed principles, somatic awareness, nervous system understanding, and state-based observation into a practical, clinically relevant framework for practitioners.

This Training is Especially Helpful If . .

  • you work with complex trauma

  • clients become overwhelmed quickly

  • you struggle to know when to deepen vs slow down

  • sessions sometimes feel difficult to contain

  • clients appear shut down or compliant

  • you want more confidence with pacing and overload recognition

If you recognize yourself in this, this training will give you a clearer way to understand what is happening in session—and how to respond
